Gayle Langguth
flute/piccolo



Gayle was principal piccolo with the Blossom Festival Concert Band for 15 years and taught applied flute for 13 years in the Preparatory Department of Baldwin-Wallace College. She performs as a church musician throughout northeastern Ohio and maintains a private lesson studio in her Mentor home. Married to SOS clarinetist Bruce, they have three daughters, ages 10, 8, and 4. A member of AFM Local 4, Gayle has been with SOS since 1994.

Holly Michalke
flute/piccolo



Holly is an instrumental music teacher in the Berea City School District and is an adjudicator for the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA).  She performs frequently with major ensembles throughout Northeastern Ohio.  A member of AFM Local 24, Holly has been with SOS since 1994.

Patti Hoover
oboe/English horn



Patti is a member of the Tuscarawas Symphony, Kent State Stark Community Band, Medina Chamber Winds and is on the substitute list for Ashland Symphony.  She plays for the Choral Society in Steubenville and free-lances in Ohio and Pennsylvania.  She has previous pit experience with Canton Player's Guild, Kent State University Stark Campus theatre and Akron's own Light Opera.  Patti teaches privately, has been a member of SOS since 2000 and is a member of AFM Local 24.

Patricia Grutzmacher
oboe/English horn



Patricia is an associate professor of Music at Kent State University Stark Campus, where she is music department coordinator. She is the founding conductor of the Kent Stark Concert Band, and teaches applied oboe as well as music teaching methods courses, and Western and Non-Western music history. She is president-elect of OMEA District VIII, and a member of a member of AFM Local 111. Pat has been with SOS since 1997.

Vicki Wert
oboe/English horn



Vicki studied oboe at Baldwin Wallace College with Galen Krall. She has also studied with John Mack, former principal oboist of the Cleveland Orchestra. Wert has been the principal oboist of the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra since 1990. She has also performed with the Lorain Community Orchestra, where she has been featured as soloist. Wert has previously performed with the Omaha Symphony, the Canton Symphony, the Akron Symphony, the Erie Philharmonic and the Ohio Chamber Orchestra.

Lydia Byndas
bassoon



Lydia is a professional musician in the greater Cleveland area with a wide range of performing experience. She performs with the Blossom Festival Band as well as the Lakewood Hometown Band.  A member of AFM Local 4, Lydia has been a member of SOS since 1997.

Pat Kroft
bassoon



Patricia (Pat) Kroft is a member of the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra, the KSU/Stark Band,  is the manager and  a member of the Canton Concert Band and the Stark Co. Fair Band,  and subs with the Meadowbrook Big Band.  She maintains a private lesson studio, is the Bassoon Instructor at KSU/Stark and Mt. Union College, and teaches a Woodwind Methods class at Mt. Union College.  She is a substitute teacher for the Louisville Public Schools and is an OMEA adjudicator.  Her union membership is with AFM Local 111 of Canton.

David Adamson
clarinet/bass clarinet/saxophone



David's primary teachers include Alan P. Squire and John Mohler on clarinet, and Galan Kral and Donald Sinta on saxophone.  He currently performs with The Sounds of Sousa Band, The Blossom Festival Band, The Shaker Heights Community Band and The Lakewood Hometown Band.  He was a public school band director for sixteen years and currently serves as business manager and adjudicator for the Ohio Music Education Association. His current positions are with Lentine's Music as their institutional Representative and the holds the Woodwind Department Chair for The Cleveland Music School Settlement.  A member of AFM Local 4, Dave has been with SOS since 1994.

Pamela Adamson

Pam teaches instrumental music in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School System. She also teaches private clarinet and saxophone lessons. A member of AFM Local 4, Pam has been with SOS since 1996.

Charles (Chuck) Baker
clarinet



Chuck is a clarinet teacher at The School of Fine Arts in Willoughby. He is principal clarinetist and associate conductor of The Lakeland Civic Orchestra. Retired after 30 years of public school music teaching (Wickliffe City Schools), he is still very active with the Ohio Music Education Association. A member of AFM Local 4, Charles has been with SOS since 1998.

Mary Ann Grof-Neiman

She is assistant director of performing arts for the Cleveland Music School Settlement. She remains an active performer and has appeared with the Blossom Festival Band, Lakeside Symphony Orchestra, Erie Philharmonic, Youngstown Symphony, and the Lakewood Hometown Band. A member of Locals 4 and 24, Mary Ann has been a member of SOS since 1992.

Alice Koudela-Rudolph

Alice is finishing her 25th year of teaching in Strongsville City Schools as teacher of instrumental music. She has served as division chair and team leader at Albion Middle School along with her teaching duties and received the Stanbury Award for Excellence in teaching. She performs with The Sounds of Sousa Band, Lakewood Hometown Band, and The Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra. A member of AFM Local 24, Alice has been a member of SOS since 1992.

Bruce Langguth

From 1983-1985, Bruce held the position of clarinetist with the Mexico City Philharmonic, performing in concerts throughout Mexico. He was a member of the Blossom Festival Concert Band for 14 years, and currently performs as a free-lance musician in the Cleveland area. Bruce maintains a private lesson studio, and holds the position of Customer Service manager with a hardware distributorship. Married to SOS flutist Gayle, they have three daughters, ages 10, 8, and 4. A member of AFM Local 4, Bruce has been a member of SOS since 1994.

Ed Lichtenberg
clarinet/saxophone



Ed is retired from education after 32 years as a band director, principal, and assistant superintendent. He has been a performing musician for 41 years, has appeared with groups such as the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and has played back up for performers such as Jack Jones and Nancy Wilson. A member of Local 24, Ed has been a member of SOS since 1994.

Linda Simon-Mietus
clarinet/bass clarinet/saxophone



Linda is professor of clarinet at Kent State University's Stark Campus, and teaches clarinet and saxophone for the Cleveland Music School Settlement. She substitutes frequently with the Akron Symphony, Youngstown Symphony and Eire Philharmonic. A member of Musician's Union Local 24, Linda has been a member of SOS since moving to Ohio in 1999.

Patti Olsson
saxophone



Patricia is an adjunct professor of saxophone at Kent State University-Stark Campus and Mt.UnionCollege. She holds a bachelor's degree in music education and a master's degree in saxophone performance from YoungstownStateUniversity's Dana School of Music where her teacher was Joseph Edwards.Other teachers include Paul Cohen and Robert Lyon.Ms. Olsson is a featured soloist with the Sounds of Sousa Band and has performed solos with the Canton Concert Band; Kent State University-Stark Campus Concert Band; and solo recitals at KSU-Stark, Mt.UnionCollege, MaloneCollege, MuskingumCollege and HiramCollege.She has conducted the Canton Concert Band, Kent State University-Stark Campus Concert Band, Hiram College Concert Band and various saxophone ensembles.She has also performed with the Lakewood Hometown Band, Wheeling Symphony, Youngstown State All-Star Concert Band, Dominic Greco Memorial Band; the Tuscarawas Philharmonic; the YSU-Dana School of Music Alumni Jazz Ensemble; the Allegheny Summer Music Festival Jazz Ensemble; for the Canton Players Guild, Youngstown Playhouse and Canton Lyric Opera; at the North American Saxophone Alliance Region V Conference. An Adjudicator for the Ohio Music Education Association, she is a also member of Music Educator's National Conference, the Ohio Music Education Association, the North American Saxophone Alliance, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and is a life member of Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity for Women.  She has been with SOS since 1995.


Amy Giauque

Amy Giauque is a 1996 graduate of Cloverleaf High School. While in high school she was an active member of her school music program including concert band and marching band as well as participating yearly in solo and ensemble and the Medina County honors band. She was also a member of the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony, Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra, Medina Community Band and Medina Community Orchestra. Amy attended Capital University where she received a bachelor's degree in music performance. While there she performed in many university ensembles including the Symphonic Band, Chamber Winds, Community Orchestra, Woodwind and Brass Quintet.  A recent graduate from The University of Akron, Amy played principal horn in the Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra as well as being a member of the Graduate Brass and Woodwind Quintet. She is currently playing with Medina Community Band and the Marcus Neiman Sounds of Sousa Band and looking for an instrumental music teaching position.


Mark Gifford

Mark is an enginerring technician with United Musical Instruments, makers of King, Conn, and Benge brass instruments, working to develop prototype instruments as well as improving existing models.  Mark has degrees in music education from The University of Akron and music performance from The Ohio State University. He has performed professionally with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Akron Symphony Orchestra, and Mansfield Symphony Orchestra as well as freelancing in the Columbus, Cleveland, and Akron areas.  He has also worked as a band instrument repair technician specializing in brass instrunments.  Mark is a member of AFM Local 24.

Melinda Kellerstrass

Melinda is a music educator, has taught in South Dakota, Montana, and Ohio, and is currently teaching middle school band with the Brunswick City Schools.  She is an active member of OMEA and an adjudicator, and a member of the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education.  Melinda keeps busy presenting clinics on Assessment in the Arts to educators around the state of Ohio.  She also teachers private horn lessons.  She is a member of the Medina Community Band and has her own horn ensemble “Cornucopia.” A member of AFM Local 4, she has been with SOS since 1992.

Gail Sigmund
horn/equipment manager



Gail serves as equipment manager. She has been teaching middle school math in Cleveland since 1979. Prior to that she taught instrumental music for ten years in the Brunswick and Firelands districts. An active performer, Gail plays horn in the Medina Community Band and Cornucopia, a horn trio, and alto horn in the Cuyahoga Valley Brass Band. She has previously performed with the Cleveland Women's Orchestra, the Parma Civic Orchestra, and Symphony West. A member of AFM Local 24, Gail has been with SOS since 1992. 

Christopher Burdick

Christopher Burdick is a band director with the North Royalton City Schools.He directs the North Royalton High School Symphonic Band, the Seventh & Eighth Grade Bands, and the Musical Pit Orchestra.He assists with the 6th Grade Band and the North Royalton High School Marching Band, which participated in the 2003 Tournament of Roses Parade.Christopher is a member of the Ohio Music Education and is the Local Chairman for the District IV Junior High Large Group Adjudicated Event.He served as a director on the American Music Abroad Honors Band & Choir Tour of Western Europe in 1999.Christopher is originally from Boston, NY, a suburb of Buffalo.He received his Bachelor's in 1992 at the Crane School of Music at Potsdam College where he received the Julia Crane Award; voted on by the faculty as most likely to succeed as a music educator.In 1993, he co-founded and directed the Boston Town Community Band which continues to this day.He was a graduate assistant at Kent State and was a member of the Kent Faculty Brass Quintet for two years while earning his Master's in 1994.He has performed with the Potsdam Brass Quintet, the Chamber Orchestra of Northern NY, and the Kent-Blossom Orchestra under the direction of Leonard Slatkin.Christopher is currently a member of Marcus Neiman and the Sounds of Sousa Band and the Akron Federation of Musicians Local 24.He and his wife Beth, a member of the flute section, reside in Brunswick with their sons, Ryan and Brendan.


Frank Cosenza

Frank is director of bands and music department chair for the West Geauga Local School District. He has performed with The Blossom Festival Band, Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey's Circus, Manhattan Transfer and free lances all styles of music throughout the Cleveland area. He serves Ohio Music Education Association as adjudicator and past district president. A member of AFM Local 4, Frank has been a member of SOS since 1992.

Marcia Nelson-Kline

Marcia Nelson Kline began her trumpet studies with her parents, Milton and Sarah Nelson, and the late Lloyd Haines (all retired Akron Symphony Orchestra members). These teachers instilled an appreciation and love for traditional cornet solos. Marcia continued private studies with Harry Herforth, Charles Schleuter, and James Darling while earning an Associate Degree in medical assisting from The University of Akron. In addition to Sounds of Sousa, she performs with Cuyahoga Valley Brass Band, Medina Community Band, and Cleveland Women's Orchestra. Marcia is often featured as a soloist with Sounds of Sousa and Medina Community Band, and has also appeared as soloist with Goodyear Band and Mercer (PA) Community Band. A member of AFM Local 24, she has been with SOS since 1992.

Raymond Rinaldi

Ray is a prominent Cleveland area trumpeter who also had a distinguished career as an instrumental music director in the Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools.  His bands achieved top ratings and developed state and regional recognition for their tradition of excellence.  He has been a clinician at The University of Akron, a solo and ensemble adjudicator, and is presently a consultant for a number of school concert and jazz bands in the Cleveland area.  Ray has been one of the most sought after professional trumpeters in greater Cleveland.  His past credits include regular performances for top entertainers at Musicarnival, the Hanna and Palace Theaters, the Coliseum, Blossom (Music Center) Festival Band, Ringling Brothers Circus, and 17 years in the Front Row Theater Orchestra.  He is a former member of the Lakeland Civic Band, of which he has been a guest conductor.  For many years, he was solo cornetist with the Lakewood Hometown Band and appeared with that group as a guest conductor.  Ray has been with SOS since 1993 and is a member of AFM Local 4.

Paul Rocco

Paul is a police officer for the City of Medina, and the departments Forensic Artist, having completed the Forensic Facial Imaging Course at the FBI Academy, Quantico, Va.. Currently completing his music degree at The University of Akron, he has been active as a performer with the Cuyahoga Valley Brass Band and Medina Community Band. A member of AFM Local 24, Paul has been with SOS since 1999.

Erik Svoboda
cornet



Erik, a native Clevelander, has performed with Arkansas Music Festival, Blossom Music Festival, Blossom Concert Band, and Summit Brass Institute. He was the featured cornet soloist the “Sounds of Sousa Band” at the 2000 Ohio Music Education Association professional conference Palace Theatre performance. During the summer of 2001, he is performing at the Lake Placid Music Institute in Lake Placid, New York. His recent releases include the “Celebration of Brass and Organ” with the Heritage Brass Quintet. He has worked with trumpet students in the Cleveland area and has been on the staff with the Willoughby Fine Arts Association for the past 17 years. A member of AFM Local 4, Erik has been with SOS since 1995.

Teresa Cosenza

Teresa is assistant director of bands for the West Geauga Local School District. She serves as an Ohio Music Education Association adjudicator. A member of AFM Local 159, Teresa has been a member of SOS since 1992.

Vincent Guentner
trombone



Free-lance player based in Cleveland, plays with Ohio Chamber Orchestra, Cleveland Opera, Cleveland Pops, Mansfield Orchestra, Erie Philharmonic, etc. Teaches at Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Division. A member of AFM Local 4, Vince has been a member of SOS since 1998.

Rod Hannah

Rod serves as assistant equipment manager for SOS. He is an active member of the Medina Community Band. A member of Local 24, Rod has been a member of SOS since 1992.

Lee Harper
trombone/marketing manager



Lee serves as costume mistress for the Sounds of Sousa Band. She is a postal worker at the Medina, Ohio Post Office. Lee spent three years in the Air Force serving in the United States Air Force WAF Band, an all-women's 50 piece concert band. Lee has played in community bands, brass ensembles and dance bands in the northern Ohio area, and has been a member of The Medina Community Band for 15 years. A member of AFM Local 4, Lee has been a member of SOS since 1992.

John Olsson

John is artist-in residence instructor of low brass at Kent State University-Stark Campus and is the instructor of trombone/Euphonium at Mount Union College and Youngstown State University's Dana School of Music.Olsson holds the bachelor's degree in music education from Youngstown State University's Dana School of Music and the master of fine arts degree in trombone orchestral performance from Carnegie-Mellon University.He is a featured soloist with the Sounds of Sousa Band and is currently a member of the Canton and Wheeling Symphony Orchestras; the Jazz Heritage Orchestra, the Woodlands and Metropolitan Brass Quintets; the Canton Concert Band and First Class Big Band.He has performed with the Cleveland Light Opera; Cleveland Opera and Ballet Orchestra; Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, River City Brass Band of Pittsburgh; the Akron, Youngstown and Westmoreland Symphony Orchestras; Akron, Canton, and Carnegie Brass Quintets; the YSU-Dana School of Music Alumni Jazz Ensemble; the Allegheny Summer Music Festival Jazz Ensemble; the Tuscarawas Philharmonic; the Canton Players Guild and Lyric Opera; the Hiram and Kent State University-Stark Campus Concert Bands and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and with such notables as: Slide Hampton, Tommy Harrell, Jerry Lewis, Keith Lockhart, Maureen McGovern, Michael Martin Murphy, Jim Nabors, Doc Severenson, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, The Temptations, Toni Tennille, Donna Theodore, Barry Tuckwell, Frankie Valli, Allen Vizutti, Andre Watts, and Bill Watrous.His teachers include Elliot Chasanov, James DeSano, Vern Kagarice, Thomas Klaber, Byron McCulloh and Raymond Premru.Mr. Olsson is a member of the International Trombone Association; Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia International Music Fraternity; the Canton Symphony Orchestra Committee, and is a board member of Local #111, International Federation of Musicians. John has been with SOS since 1995.

William I. Bauer

Bill is an associate professor of music education and university director of teacher licensure at Case Western Reserve University where he teaches undergraduate and graduate level classes with primary responsibilities in music education research, the psychology of music teaching and learning, and the applications of technology to music instruction. He has published articles in many leading music education journals and is in demand as a conference presenter, adjudicator, and clinician. In addition, Bill is a founding conductor of the Wadsworth Community Band.  Bill has been with SOS since 1992.

Mark Hensler

Mark is a music educator in the Northwest Local Schools (Cincinnati, OH). In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he is assistant director and soloist with the Cincinnati Brass Band and director of the Ohio Military (community) Band. He is frequently featured as soloist with high school and community bands in the Cincinnati area. A member of AFM Local 1, Mark has been a member of SOS since 1996.

Allan Kelley
tuba



Allan performs with the Cuyahoga Community College, Goodyear, Fairview Park, and Medina Community bands. He also participates in the Tuba Christmas performances in Lorain, Medina, Niles, and Wooster. A member of AFM Local 4, the 2001 season is his first with SOS.

Kyle Snyder
tuba



Kyle is a claims supervisor with Prudential Insurance Company . He enjoys playing "Dixieland" music and currently performs with the Earlville Jazz band, The River Hawks Jazz Band, and The River City Jazz Band. He is also on the staff of the Six Flags Worlds of Adventure Park. He plays with the Medina Community Band, the Elyria Patriots Community Band, the Patriots Dance Band, and the Black Tie Big Band. A member of AFM Local 24, Kyle has been a member of SOS since 1992.
